North Apple Valley Water System Improvement Plan

Apple Valley Ranchos Water Company

WSC worked with Apple Valley Ranchos Water Company (AVRWC) to develop a Water System Improvement Plan for the North Apple Valley portion of AVRWC’s service area.  At the time, the project area was very sparsely populated and had low water use, but high fire flow demands due to the presence of a few large industrial and commercial customers.  Such conditions were not anticipated when the system was originally designed and it was not optimally configured for the current needs.  In addition, the Town of Apple Valley adopted an Industrial Specific Plan and laid a foundation for swift industrial expansion in this area.  The North Apple Valley Water System Improvement Plan identified improvements needed to increase the capacity and reliability of the water system for existing customers and provided a reliable guide for managing future growth.

WSC developed updated water demand factors and spatially allocated current and future water demands in AVRWC’s hydraulic model in InfoWater.  The updated model is being used to evaluate the capacity of the water system under current and future conditions.  WSC’s hydraulic assessment considered multiple system level alternatives to determine the most beneficial approach to improve the existing water system.  Using the results of this analysis, WSC developed a North Apple Valley Water System Capital Improvement Plan to identified projects needed to improve capacity and reliability of the water system.
